New Project: I started work several months ago on an album that was supposed to be a
collection of techno-pop/funk tunes. However, after becoming engrossed
in the material, it has morphed into a 14-track magnum opus; a 'chapter'
of an opera I've been toying with for a
few years about a fellow called Cheeze. It is a blend of:
techno-pop/funk; electronica; psychedelia; experimental; jazz; ambient;
world and classical--and that's just in one song :)
I am now starting to mix the tracks, having finished all recording
last week. I have been lucky to enlist the services of a leading
mastering engineer in the UK, Pete Maher, who has agreed to master my
new album. Pete has mastered, among many others, U2, Depeche Mode,
Patti Smith, Nine Inch Nails, etc. I am quite lucky to get this
opportunity. He was introduced to me by my dear friend Simon Humphrey,
who helped me mix my "Hungry Ghosts" album. Besides me, Simon has mixed
The Clash, Jeff Beck, Culture Club. Hans Zimmer, ABBA, etc. I will start
taking pre-orders in late March, to help me pay for the new album (I
will make a limited run of actual CDs, with cover artwork by some very
cool international artists). It will be my version of 'crowd funding'
without the crowd. Slated release will be in April or perhaps early May.
